Adoption Fundraising

As many of you blog readers know, Nick and I are in the middle of an international adoption. We have been brainstorming fundraising ideas since we started and this morning we proposed one on our adoption blog. We'll see what happens.

So, are you an adoptive parent?
Do you know any adoptive parents?

If you answered "yes!" to either of those statements (or are just curious) please check this out and help us out if you can. (We'd appreciate your feedback as well, so let us know what you think.)

Ah, a good Sunday morning laugh...

I must confess that nearly every morning, I get up, go to the bathroom and then sit down and check email and see who blogged overnight. This morning, this habit has paid off! I found this wonderful youtube clip and just had to share it here as well. Nick and I just laughed and laughed and laughed. Enjoy!

Sugar Scrubs

Last year, I found a great recipe for a shower scrub in Real Simple magazine. I tried it and it was luxurious. I loved it. Sometime last week I started thinking about this again and thought I need to remember to get some raw sugar and use that scrub again. And then this morning I found this and this and I thought, "All signs are hinting that it is time to pamper!"

I look forward to trying one of their scrubs, but I will also repeat my own. I thought that I'd share this recipe I used because it was so so nice.

Equal parts raw sugar and olive oil.

(And as Suzanne mentioned in her careful, it can make you quite slippery when wet!)

Virtual Quilts #3, #4, & #5

For days now, I've been working on these quilt squares. Whenever I talk with Jess she says, "What did you do today?" After a week, she just joins in "Quilted." I have thoroughly enjoyed throwing myself into a creative process. It has literally been months since I've been completely engaged with the space and materials to make it happen. Thank god Nick appreciates this because I don't think I've been doing much other than quilting. Meanwhile, he's finished the guest room including all of the painting and a closest make-over. He's rewired some electric in the basement...making the light switch locations more intuitive. He's framed out a window in the basement. He's began our big bedroom/bathroom renovation. He is amazing and in many ways, I think he experiences many of those activities in the same way I do quilting, glass, books or whatever it is that I've become entirely absorbed by.

Tonight Nick went golfing with two friends. I'm really glad he did this b/c I feel a bit bad that he--by choice--uses almost all of his "down time" to make our living space more comfortable. I however, have spent the last three hours on the computer playing with virtual quilting. If I go with the smaller quilts (#1 & #2) I will have two when I am finished. If I go with any of the others, I will have a quilt that may actually fit on our bed.

PLEASE COMMENT and let me know which direction I should go. Here are three larger combined options:

Virtual Quilt #2

Interestingly, while these squares are different, when put together the top is remarkably similar to Virtual Quilt #1. There are some subtle differences in the tops if you look carefully.

Next: some combination of the two Part 1.

Virtual Quilt #1

Last fall I posted a picture of my first attempt at quilting. I have nearly finished the hand quilting of that one and once it is completed and bound, I'll post another picture. Lately, I starting to play with the scraps that were left over from that project.

Below is the first of several virtual quilt tops. I do have a total of 40 squares completed with two different patterns. I'm trying to decide if I want one large quilt that incorporates them both or if I want to keep them separate. This first uses only one of the square sets. (I'll work to get the others up over the next couple of days.)

A few weeks ago, our friends Brooke and Homer told us about during their visit. There are updates every Sunday. Today this included a mini-movie. I think its great....the music fits perfectly and the secrets paired with the music are powerful, sad, amazing. If you're not familiar with the site, take a look.

New Summer Garden Pics

We haven't eaten as much of this as I would have liked so far this summer.

The dalias are finally blooming.

Our hard-to-grow-anything-on-hill does like this wildflower.

Today we spent a bunch of time weeding, harvesting, and reseeding some beds. We got a ton of little onions, some cabbage and squash, a lot of beans and many carrots. I took a few pictures to share...

I'm An Aunt!

He's such a cutie! I can't wait to meet him, however, it will be a few weeks yet. We've been back and forth to PA a lot lately and feel like we just need to stay put until we actually have a vacation day. So, we'll meet little Jacob then!
